Month three finished! Although my reading pages are good, my reading rate was not consistent. The first two weeks were decent, I read everyday. However, the last couple of weeks having been very busy, and my reading schedule went down the drain. To make up for the lost days, I crammed in 2 candy books in the last 4 days of the month!

The Poisonwood Bible was nothing I imagined it to be. Growing up as a Christian, I understand devotion, missionary , and sufferings of mission life. This novel brought in a different perspective to what I knew about mission life and it was interesting to learn about such an experience. For those of who don’t know, The Poisonwood Bible is a novel about a missionary family who came to the Belgian Congo in 1955. With very high hopes, they brought what ever they good, from Betty Crocker cake mixers to the Scriptures, only to see it go futile in the land of Africa. Overcome by many sufferings, shame, and regrets, the missionary family continues to stay in Africa and faces many trials and life changing experiences. This novel was excellent; however, certain parts of it went very slow and without action. That being the only thing that I disliked about this novel, I gave the book five stars. It is an amazing story and I recommended all to read it.

The Nightingale was for sure this months favourite, it is such a beautiful story! I first decided to read this book because my writers seminar is going to about Kristin Hannah, the author of this book. All I’m going to say is that this books encapsulates every emotional feeling into one story. The characters in this book are faced with the decision to make choices after choices not knowing what the end may be. In this story the author talks about love in times of war, family care in times of restricted freedom, and the risky challenges that are completed when death is the consequence for every false move. Once you start reading, it’s very difficult to stop, trust me!

I’m not going to spend to much time talking about my last two books; however, they were fun little reads. When In Rome, was about an American journalist unknowingly becomes twisted up in serious fraud case that involves her boyfriend and her ex-boyfriend. As the mystery unravels, the journalist finds herself in a big mess that is solvable only by confronting her boyfriend and confess her actions. It’s a cute little book and I recommend it to all that enjoy mystery with a hint of romance. The Shadow Prince, the disgraced prince of the Underworld, enters into the mortal realm to bring his boon back with him. Only when he enters the world does he find his father’s, King Ren’s, plans, intentions, and mistakes. Mixed in with Greek mythology, destinies, and romance, this novel is a good read to relax and enjoy!

As for next months readings, I want to primarily focus on reading some poetry, as that is what we are focusing on in class and in my ELA class. As of now, I am still searching for some poetry books that I’ll be interested in. By bucket list also includes the books back from March that are still not in the library. Maybe this month I’ll get them! 🙂
